Who are we?


The social purpose of the Providence Foundation is to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina Archipelago, seeking environmental justice and social security within ethical principles.

SCIENCE AND CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE SEAFLOWER BIOSPHERE.


The Providence Foundation develops leadership actions in social participation to harmonize the lifestyle on the islands with the natural environment, facilitating integration and articulation processes between the public and private sectors, to comprehensively address the problems and needs of the community residing in the San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina Archipelago, within the framework of a Sustainable Development model for the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve.



VISION

The goal of the Providencia Foundation is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the population of the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, through the protection of biodiversity and sustainable development in the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, the appropriation of science, technology and innovation, seeking environmental and social justice and security within ethical principles, as well as governance for the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources of the Archipelago.

Our Team

June Marie Mow Robinson, Executive Director

Hello, I am June Marie Mow, Executive Director of the Providence Foundation. Throughout my life, I have been a resilient person, always committed to the fight against climate change and environmental conservation. Since the creation of the Providence Foundation, I have dedicated my energy and passion to the sustainability of our beloved island of Providence. My mission has been to protect and preserve our natural environment, facing challenges with courage and hope, to ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty and richness of our home. Every step we take is an effort to keep the essence of Providence alive, and it is an honor to lead this way.


German David Valencia, President

Hello, I am David Valencia, founding member and President of the Providence Foundation since 2007. I have a degree in Marine Biology from Farleigh Dickinson University in the United States, and a Masters in Marine Science and Management from Southern Cross University in Australia. I also studied Marine Science in Barcelona, Spain.

I have been part of several projects with the foundation, most recently leading the Pure Parrotfish conservation project, Remembrances of our Roots, as well as others focused on the conservation of the SEAFLOWER biosphere reserve and its resources.

I am a certified diver, technical diver and CCR (closed circuit breathing) diver, as well as an underwater photographer and videographer, which has allowed me to participate in many projects both for the conservation and promotion of the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.



Angelica Bowie Barrios, Vice President

Hello, I am Angélica Bowie, originally from San Andrés Island, a founding member and a civil engineer by training. I graduated from EAFIT University in Medellín and have a specialization in Integrated Environmental Management from the Universidad de los Andes. In addition, I have advanced training in the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources in Germany.

With 18 years of experience in the public and private sectors, I have held a variety of management, advisory and technical roles, particularly in the field of sustainable development. I have strong experience leading interdisciplinary teams and working with rural communities and ethnic groups, and I am passionate about achieving results and solving complex challenges.

At the Providence Foundation, we have a team that is guided by fundamental values such as understanding, respect, responsibility and collaboration. We are passionately dedicated to meeting the needs of the indigenous community of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. With a focus on sustainability and environmental protection, we create inclusive communication strategies, promote environmental education and work on the restoration of local ecosystems. Our commitment drives us to consolidate, in a rewarding way, the objectives of the Foundation, contributing to the well-being of the communities and the preservation of the biodiversity of the Archipelago.
